The Messinian Gulf apart from its enchanting beaches is also famous for the beauty and richness of its seabed.Choose to dive along the coast of the gulf and you will be impressed by the underwater caves, the spectacular colours the unique species of life and countless other surprises you will experience. The bay from the mouth of the river Tsane up to Helonaria, the cape of Voidokoilia, the island of Venetiko, Avgo or Petrokaravo and the island of Sapinetza, are a paradise for skilful divers. However in the southern part of Sapientza island, there is an underwater abyss and diving is not permitted.
Sapientza, one of the three Oinoussai Islands, whose slopes climb up in lush greenery, and the crystal clear waters of the sea, is also ideal for diving.

Yachting and Sailing

The yacht marina of Kalamata is built west of the main harbour. The marina has the capacity to accommodate 255 vessels with a maximum length of 30m. All births are equipped with mooring lines and a system provides the guests with electricity, fresh water and telephone. Toilets, showers and laundry are at the guests' availability. Around the marina are several traditional Greek taverns, restaurants and bars. The super market is located only 150m away from the marina, while the hospital is only 2km away. The marina offers more than adequate services and the competitive prices. Moreover, it is fenced and is guarded on a 24-hour basis, which make it one of the most attractive marinas in Greece.

The marina of Pylos is just 300m north of the town square. It is well sheltered in all weathers behind the island of Sfaktiria. The marina is still small and incomplete but it is a good place to leave a yacht for a month in summer, and several yachts winter here. Thanks to the tourism development at Costa Navarino the marina's popularity is expected to increase dramatically and new facilities will be added in the near future.

Tip: you can also make day trips or short excursions and sail along the south coast of Messinia on a sailing yacht. Possible places to visit are Agios Andreas, Koroni, Methoni, Finikounda, Pylos. Contact Areionsail for further details.
