International Dance Festival
During your holidays in Messinia, don't miss
this cultural event of international fame. One of the leading cultural events in the life of Kalamata, the Kalamata
International Dance Festival has been held there since 1995 and is one of the most successful events in Greece. Meeting
the highest artistic standards, the Festival presents groupes and artists from all over the world, supports modern dance in
Greece and organizes seminars of dance under the supervision of internationally known dance teachers. Other concerts
and musical events are organised throughout the year at various locations, including night clubs, bars and restaurant.

The Routes of the Olive Tree
The Eleodromia are held in June and are certainly
a suggestion for escape from routine. Motorcycle enthusiasts discover the Greek Peloponnese having as a starting point beautiful
Methoni, the southernmost edge of Messinia. Next to the beach and Methoni's famous medieval castle, several events take place
and visitors learn about the olive tree and its products, and suggestions for Mediterranean healthy eating. The Routes
of the Olive Tree lead the visitor along the most important regions of the Mediterranean where olive trees are cultivated.
In Messinia the olive tree dominates the landscape and olives and olive oil have been the traditional local products for many centuries.

Flower Feast
During the last week of May, the Anthestiria
(flower feast) are taking place at the western seashore of Kalamata. The Anthestiria is a Floricultural and Commercial exposition
including various events relating to the Messinian economy, tourism, and nature. Each year for more than 50 years now, the
flower show coincides with an exhibition of local products. The event attracts thousands of visitors, particularly on the last day when the flower parade
steals the show, whereby each chariot has a different theme.

Ithomia
Each year in summer the Ithomia Festival is held in Messini
with folkloric dances from all over Greece. Dancers in local costumes from various places of Greece dance at the central park
of Messini (the park's Amphitheatre). At the archaeological site of Ancient Messini the ceremony of the lighting of the Ithomaia
flame takes place (a ceremony similar to the lighting of the Olympic torch). After
that there are athletic games for kids.
